Introducing CrossFit Sixth City’s Sweatiest Angel for the month of February 2018 – Ben Brucker!

If you have ever met someone that seems to live at the gym, then you probably understand Ben’s work ethic. Constantly giving his all and continually working to improve, it is clear that he truly enjoys the process of growth. And man does the kid have a motor! Not to be outdone by his athletic prowess, he’s also a great young man and pleasure to have as part of the family.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Ben: I started CrossFit in January of 2016 when I was working for P&G in Green Bay Wisconsin. The first gym I joined was CrossFit Green Bay where my love for CrossFit first began. My twin brother was the one who first got me interested and I quickly fell in love with the high intensity workouts that allow me to sustain my endurance and build my strength. The feeling at the end of each CrossFit workout is what has me hooked… the ultimate satisfaction.
What do you do when you are not at CSC (hobbies, occupation, etc)?
Ben: Outside of CSC I work for a startup company called BIOHM Health. We sell probiotics and digestive microbiome sequencing at home test kits. Outside of work I am a gigantic Buffalo Sports fan (yes we are as crazy as everyone says), I love to run, I love to spend time with family, and I love to travel with my closest friends.
What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Ben: My favorite WOD is a toss up between Cindy or Murph. The grind of my favorite body weight movements and running is something I can never pass up!
What is your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
Ben: My least favorite movement has to be snatches or overhead squats. But it is also the movement I have improved the most in over the last couple of years. I have become more and more comfortable with these movements through my coaches at CrossFit Green Bay and Adam and Jeff here at CSC.
When did you come to find CrossFit and realize it was for you?
Ben: The first time I found CrossFit was watching the 2014 CrossFit Games with my brother and we were automatically hooked. Watching Rich Froning and Matt Frazier battle it out in the last several events was truly inspiring. Seeing their commitment, work ethic, dedication, and determination truly resonated with how both my brother and I approach life and joining the CrossFit community just seemed like a natural fit!
What were your expectations when you started CrossFit?
Ben: I expected to work out hard and build strength. Both of these things have happened but there has been so much more. I could not have ever imagined the relationships and friendships I have built through CrossFit and the impact it has had on my life. It has truly changed it and I am forever grateful for that.
What are your goals for CrossFit?
Ben: My goals are pretty simple: Build Strength, Build Lean Muscle, Maintain Endurance, and learn muscle ups!
What has your experience been with CrossFit?
Ben: My experience with CrossFit has been amazing. It is truly all about the friendships and bonds I have been able to create through my time at several CrossFit gyms. I treasure the CrossFit community and all that it has given me. I can only hope that one day I can give back half of what I have gained.
One thing you’ve done at CSC you never thought you would do?
Ben: Clean 190 lb. It is not that I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it, it was more that it happened so quickly. I was stuck at around a 165 lb clean for the longest time and I finally was able to spend the time to truly understand, process, and execute the correct movement. It has done wonders for me and I am now working on the snatch movement to try to really master it.
What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
Ben: Trust the process. There are numerous times were it will be easy to say “I can’t”, from OnRamp, to your first real class, to two months of dedicated training. But if you trust the process and say “I can”, you will undoubtedly see the fruits of your labor. Follow the mundane process each and every day and hold yourself accountable to your schedule. I promise you will begin to see results in the first couple of weeks and will feel better in life overall.
